Aspiring Youth Offending Officer – SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Dunstable, Bedfordshire

Salary: £460 – £500 per week

Contract: Full-Time | Start Date: Immediate or September

Sector: Education and Training

Are you a Psychology or Criminology graduate with a passion for supporting young people? Are you an aspiring Youth Offending Officer eager to gain hands-on experience working with students facing behavioural challenges in the education and training sector?

If so, this Aspiring Youth Offending Officer opportunity in Dunstable could be the perfect next step in your career within the education and training sector.

We’re working with a specialist SEN school in Dunstable that is looking for a dedicated and compassionate graduate to join their team as an Aspiring Youth Offending Officer. This is an ideal opportunity for someone aspiring to work in youth offending, criminal justice, or behaviour support.

In this full-time role, you'll work closely with students who present Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties—many of whom may have a history of challenging or offending behaviour. You’ll support their educational progress, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing while gaining invaluable experience in a structured, supportive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
* Support personalised intervention plans to promote behavioural change and emotional development
* Build positive, trusting relationships with students to aid their rehabilitation and reintegration
* Encourage social responsibility, life skills, and healthy coping strategies
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, social workers, and external agencies to deliver holistic support

Ideal Candidate:

* A recent graduate in Psychology, Criminology, or a related field
* Interested in becoming a Youth Offending Officer, behaviour mentor, or working in youth justice
* Empathetic, calm, and resilient when supporting students with complex needs
* Strong communicator, team player, and role model for positive behaviour
* Experience working with young people is a bonus—but not essential; full training is provided
* Local to or able to commute to Dunstable

Why Apply?

* Make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people
* Gain hands-on experience that supports progression into youth justice, social care, or clinical fields
* Work in a supportive and collaborative school setting
* Receive ongoing training and CPD tailored to SEMH and youth support work

If you're a passionate graduate ready to start your journey toward becoming an Aspiring Youth Offending Officer, apply now to join a school where you can inspire change, build resilience, and make a lasting impact—right here in Dunstable.
