Academics Tutoring and EOTAS

Academics Tutoring and EOTAS

Join Academics as a SEND/EOTAS Tutor

Academics is proud to be a trusted partner to a number of local authorities, delivering high-quality SEND and EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) provision to Children and Young People (CYP) across the UK.

We are expanding our network of experienced SEND Tutors to provide personalised, 1:1 home-based tuition for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those accessing EOTAS packages or who are not currently in school for a variety of reasons.

Our tutors play a vital role in supporting young people who require alternative or additional provision as part of their EHCP, EOTAS package, medical needs provision, or care plan.

If you are a qualified teacher or an experienced SEND professional looking for flexible, meaningful work, we would love to hear from you.

The role of a Tutor

As a Tutor with Academics, you will deliver structured 1:1 tuition, typically within a young person’s home or agreed community setting. Many of the learners we support are currently out of mainstream education due to anxiety, EBSA, medical needs, SEMH challenges, exclusion, or complex profiles.

You will work closely with families and, where appropriate, multi-agency professionals to ensure tailored, impactful support that promotes both academic progress and personal development.

Our SEND Tutors typically:

  • Deliver between 10–20 hours of tuition per week
  • Plan and adapt individualised learning programmes
  • Support pupils with EHCPs, EOTAS packages, and complex additional needs
  • Deliver academic tuition (English, Maths, Science, Functional Skills, GCSE support, Primary curriculum)
  • Provide life skills and independence-based learning (communication skills, emotional regulation, organisation, confidence building, preparation for adulthood)
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and parents
  • Support re-engagement with education where appropriate
  • Monitor progress and provide reports in line with local authority requirements

Each placement is carefully matched to ensure the right tutor supports the right learner.

Who we support

Our SEND and EOTAS tuition placements often involve supporting learners with:

  • Autism (ASD)
  • ADHD
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
  • Anxiety and EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)
  • Moderate learning difficulties
  • Medical needs or chronic illness
  • Learners at risk of exclusion or permanently excluded
  • Looked After Children (LAC)
  • Students awaiting specialist placements

We are committed to providing patient, consistent and structured support that helps young people rebuild confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve positive long-term outcomes.

What we look for in our Tutors

We welcome applications from experienced education professionals who are passionate about supporting learners with additional needs and alternative provision pathways.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • QTS or QTLS (strongly preferred)
  • OR substantial experience working as a SEND Tutor or supporting children with SEND
  • Experience delivering 1:1 tuition, alternative provision, or EOTAS
  • Strong differentiation and behaviour management skills
  • Experience supporting pupils with complex emotional or sensory needs
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

A calm, empathetic and adaptable approach is essential when working within home-based and alternative provision environments.

When you join Academics as a Tutor, you will benefit from:

  • Flexible working hours (typically 10–20 hours per week)
  • Competitive hourly pay rates
  • Long-term, consistent tuition placements
