Location: Yateley, Hampshire

Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent

Start Date: September 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspiring and dynamic Head of English to join a thriving independent school in Yateley, Hampshire, from September 2025.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced English specialist who can lead a small but vibrant department, inspiring pupils across the ability range and contributing fully to the life of a warm, nurturing, and creative school environment. The successful candidate will have a genuine enthusiasm for literature and language, excellent subject knowledge, and the leadership skills to further develop and promote English across all Key Stages.

The School:

This independent day school offers an engaging and supportive environment where individual talents are celebrated, and creativity is at the heart of learning. Pupils are encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning and to achieve their personal best within a friendly, family-oriented setting. The school prides itself on a holistic approach to education, combining academic rigour with a strong emphasis on the arts, sports, and personal development. Class sizes are small, ensuring that each student receives individual attention and tailored support.

The Role:

* Lead and manage the English department, overseeing curriculum development, assessment, and teaching standards.
* Deliver outstanding English lessons across Key Stages 3–5, with a focus on inspiring a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking.
* Foster a supportive and ambitious learning environment that nurtures each student’s confidence and abilities.
* Collaborate with colleagues across the school to promote cross-curricular learning and enrichment activities.
* Take an active role in the broader life of the school, contributing to co-curricular opportunities and school events.

Person Specification:

* A degree in English or a related subject and QTS (or equivalent).
* Significant teaching experience, including at GCSE and A-Level.
* Previous experience of leadership or departmental responsibility is desirable but not essential.
* An innovative, enthusiastic, and approachable professional, committed to promoting high standards and student wellbeing.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire both students and colleagues.

In return, the school offers:

* A welcoming and supportive community.
* Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
* Small class sizes and a focus on personalised education.
* A beautiful campus setting with excellent facilities.

If you are passionate about English and excited by the opportunity to lead and innovate in a vibrant independent school setting, we would love to hear from you.
