SEMH Specialist – Ideal for Aspiring Educational Psychologists

Sector: Education and Training

📍 Location: Stevenage

🕒 Full-Time | Term-Time Only - 08:30 - 15:30

💰 Salary: £460 - £500

Are you a Psychology or Criminology graduate in Stevenage with a passion for understanding behaviour, mental health, and emotional development? This SEMH Specialist role in the education and training sector is the perfect role for you!

We are looking for a compassionate and committed SEMH Specialist to join our inclusive, forward-thinking team. This is a fantastic stepping stone for anyone looking to pursue postgraduate training in Educational Psychology or a related mental health profession.

🌱 About the Role:

You’ll work with students ages 4 - 21years, many of whom face barriers to learning due to emotional regulation challenges, anxiety, trauma, attachment issues, or adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Some may also be at risk of exclusion or disengagement.

As an SEMH Specialist, you’ll:

* Provide 1:1 and small group emotional support and intervention
* Assist in developing and implementing individualised behaviour and support plans
* Use evidence-based strategies to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping
* Collaborate closely with SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external services (e.g., CAMHS, social care)
* Contribute to whole-school approaches to mental health and inclusion

🎯 Who This Role Is Perfect For:

* Psychology / Criminology graduates with a strong interest in mental health, behaviour, and child development
* Individuals working toward a career as an Educational Psychologist, counsellor, clinical psychologist, or youth mental health practitioner
* Those who understand that behaviour is a form of communication, and are passionate about trauma-informed and relational approaches
* Empathetic, emotionally intelligent people who can build trust with vulnerable young people

🧠 This Role Will Give You:

* Frontline experience supporting students with SEMH needs—essential for Ed Psych applications
* A working understanding of SEND systems, EHCPs, and multi-agency collaboration
* Training in areas like emotion coaching, restorative practice, attachment theory, safeguarding, and therapeutic approaches
* Exposure to real-life casework, with time for reflection and professional development
* A chance to genuinely change lives, every single day

✅ Essentials:

* A degree in Psychology, Criminology or a related subject
* Experience working with children or young people (in any setting)
* A calm, nurturing, and reflective approach to behaviour and wellbeing
* Willingness to learn and contribute to a team that values inclusion, empathy, and growth
* Ability to commute to Stevenage.
