About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team at a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people who face challenges in mainstream education.

The successful candidate will support students with their English language and literature skills, helping them to engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

*

Support students in small groups or on a one-to-one basis with English lessons and literacy development.
*

Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging and accessible English learning activities.
*

Adapt resources and teaching methods to meet individual student needs, including those with SEND and SEMH challenges.
*

Provide behavioural and emotional support, using de-escalation strategies and positive reinforcement.
*

Support students in developing their reading, writing, and communication skills.
*

Collaborate with teachers to assess student progress and contribute to individual learning plans.
*

Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment.

Requirements:

*

A strong background in English (degree or A-Level in English preferred).
*

Previous experience working with challenging behaviour or students with SEMH needs is desirable.
*

A passion for supporting young people and a resilient, patient, and compassionate nature.
*

Understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches is an advantage.
*

Strong communication and teamwork skills.
*

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

What We Offer:

*

A supportive and collaborative team environment.
*

Training and professional development opportunities.
*

The chance to make a real difference in students’ lives.
*

Competitive salary and benefits package.

If you are enthusiastic about supporting young people and helping them re-engage with education, we would love to hear from you!
