SEN Teaching Assistant – Supporting Children with Autism and Asperger’s - Oxted

Academics is a trusted recruitment agency dedicated to connecting passionate SEN Teaching Assistant (s) with schools and educational settings in Oxted. We work closely with a variety of institutions to place skilled and committed staff where they are needed most.

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a Primary school in Oxted that supports children aged 4-11 with Autism and Asperger’s, including both day and residential students. We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. If you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs, we’d love to hear from you!

The Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs, ensuring they can fully engage with their learning and school experience. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide tailored assistance to meet each student’s unique needs.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and other SEN.
* Assist in delivering individualised learning plans to support student progress.
* Encourage student engagement, independence, and confidence in learning.
* Support students in classroom activities, ensuring they understand tasks and stay focused.
* Collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to adapt teaching materials for different learning needs.
* Monitor and track student progress, offering feedback to teachers and parents.
* Ensure students' safety and well-being during lessons, breaks, and school activities.
* Help manage behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies, promoting social interaction and inclusion.

Who We’re Looking For:

* Experience working with children with SEN is preferred, but passionate individuals looking to develop their skills are also encouraged to apply.
* Understanding of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other special educational needs.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patient, adaptable, and compassionate approach to supporting children.
* Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required.
* A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant) is desirable but not essential.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* A valid DBS check on the update service or willingness to undergo one.
* Ability to commute to Oxted

Safeguarding & Compliance:

Please note that this role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Successful applicants must complete all required safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check. If needed, candidates should be willing to undertake a safeguarding course.

If you are passionate about supporting children with special educational needs in Oxted and want to make a meaningful impact, apply to be a SEN Teaching Assistant today.
