HR/SCIENCEINSTRUCTOR

Academics are currently looking for experienced Science Instructors for Instructor opportunities within our partnership Stoke-on-Trent & Newcastle-under-Lyme secondary schools.

Whether this is a long-term contract or more flexible week by week cover work that you are looking for, after the Easter break, here at Academics we focus your job search around you and look to provide you with the type of roles that you are looking for. Our opportunities are great as they allow our instructors to be flexible with the days that they wish to work and ideally, these roles could lead to more long-term and permanent cover roles in some of our schools.

Instructors can be utilised in secondary schools to provide cover for a class when a teacher is not available. They have a subject specialism and they are employed on a flexible and day-to-day basis to ensure that a teacher can have time away from the classroom to carry out other duties (planning, assessment, or training days) or they may also be required to cover lessons for teachers who are away from school due to sickness, self-isolation or for any other absences. An Instructor is not responsible for planning or assessing a lesson as the original class teacher will set work for students to complete and the Instructor will manage behaviour and ensure that students remain on task.

The benefits of working as a Science Instructor in a secondary school include:

* No lesson planning or marking!
* Along with your subject specialism, you can support a wide variety of subjects across the curriculum!
* Work alongside successful practising teachers to develop your education knowledge further!
* Flexible working – only want to work 3 days one week, but 5 days the next? Not a problem!

As an Academics Secondary Instructor, you will:

* Hold a minimum Level 6 Qualification (Bachelor’s Degree, Professional Graduate Certificate, BTEC Advanced Professional Diploma, Degree Apprenticeship, etc…) with a Biology, Chemistry, or Physics specialism.

* Be familiar with the National Curriculum and the Science programmes of study.

* Have good classroom presence and excellent behaviour management skills.

* Have a positive can do attitude to respond to busy schools. Calls for work can be from 7:00am in the morning.

* Have flexibility between Monday to Friday. Usual working hours are between 8.30am-3.30pm

* Hold a current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service or to be prepared to apply for a new Enhanced DBS with ourselves (cost applied).

If you hold the relevant experience above and wish to be considered for our instructor opportunities, please click ‘APPLY NOW’ below to submit your most up to date CV for review.

Academics are dedicated to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect every candidate to share this commitment. Assignments are subject to safeguarding and child protection screening in line with DfE polices, including right to work, employment references and enhanced DBS checks.
