The Role
Cover Teachers are utilised in secondary schools to provide cover for a class when a teacher is not available. They are employed on a flexible basis and their main responsibility is to manage classroom behaviours and to ensure that all students remain on task.
If you are looking to build on your teaching experience of working with young people in a secondary school setting, becoming a Secondary Cover Teacher is a great and ideal opportunity to utilise and build upon your communication and behaviour management skills.
The ideal experienced Cover Teacher will:
* Hold a minimum of 6 months prior experience as working as a Cover Teacher previously, or you are soon to become an Early Career Teacher (ECT) with Qualified Teaching Status (QTS).
* Have excellent classroom management, alongside good communication skills.
* Positively forge strong working relationships and build good rapport with all students and fellow teaching colleagues.
* Be resilient and have an optimistic approach.
* Have a strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Be happy to travel and to be able to get to our partnership schools in Stoke-on-Trent & South Staffordshire by 8.30am with sometimes only 30-60 minute's notice if not booked in for work in advance.
* Hold an Enhanced DBS certificate that is currently subscribed annually to the Update Service or be happy to apply for a new Enhanced DBS with ourselves if required (cost does apply).
