Academics are recruiting on behalf of a Special School in Southampton who are looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their team.

As the SENCO, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all of their pupils receive the support and resources needed to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

This is a full-time, permanent position to start ASAP. Salary is between £45,000 - £50,000 dependent on experience, working 41 weeks per annum /40 hours per week from Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm.

The SENCo is expected to make a significant contribution to the core purpose of our school which is to ensure that all pupils achieve their best personal, social, and academic potential. The SENCo is expected to take a leading role in ensuring that all EHCP objectives are supported, whilst promoting and modelling high standards for all pupils and supporting a cohesive and positive ethos within the school.

This will be achieved by close professional liaison and dialogue with colleagues across the education, therapeutic and pastoral teams. In addition, through clear, empathetic liaison with parents, and external stakeholders, such as individual SEN Caseworkers, provide regular, professional, and accurate dialogue.

The suitable person will have QTS and the SENCO Qualification, or working towards this. You will have extensive SEN experience and knowledge and ideally have had middle management experience.

They are a mixed 7-16, local authority funded, SEN day school in Southampton for children, most of who have high functioning ASD.
They are a team with extensive experience and expertise in special education and therapeutic support for pupils whose needs can no longer be met in a mainstream provision. The vision of the school is to nurture aspiration, develop resilience and empower learning. It is centred on their single desire to make a positive, lifelong difference to the lives of our pupils.
