Mathematics Teacher – Farnham

This secondary school is rated an ‘Outstanding’ school both by Ofsted and by the Diocese of Portsmouth. This school has over 1400 students on roll, of whom over 200 are in their purpose-built Sixth Form College. Their academic performance is strong:

A Level: 63.4% of all grades are at A*-B
GCSE: 83% of students attained 5 A*-C (incl. English and Maths) 38% of all exam results were at A*/A grade.

You should have strong subject knowledge, understand the long-term goals of learning, and how it is assessed. You should set clear expectations of work and behaviour that everyone meets by creating strong and established routines. The teacher should ensure all students are accountable – ‘above all, include them all’ - you should have an understanding of and a commitment to the principles of equality, inclusion and diversity. You should be able to foster a positive environment that encourages excellent attitude and behaviour for learning. Your delivery of lessons should be engaging with high quality instruction - the big picture and focus for the lesson are shared with students. Pre-requisite knowledge or skills are checked and/or reiterated before learning starts, therefore, you should be able to use starter tasks effectively. Students are given sufficient opportunity to practice and apply their learning, while scaffolding supports students so all can make progress. The ideal teacher for this role is always learning and you should be utilizing CPD to ensure your practice is research-informed.
