I have had the pleasure of working with Academics for over a year now and I have been incredibly pleased with the support and effort that they always put into making sure we have the right calibre of graduate for our school. To begin with, a consultant visited the school so that she could understand the demographics of the school as well as the needs of the children so that she is able to fill any roles appropriately. She has developed a great understanding of how schools work and she is incredibly flexible and patient especially when I am not able to get back to her emails straight away. I feel that we have an incredible level of service from Academics and this continues with regular emails, and visits to us to see if they need to have any input with graduates from their side. In my role as Director of Inclusion I worked with Academics for 4 years. During this time we always received excellent service from the agency. They always took the time to listen to requirements from the school and ensure that the candidates he put forward were of a high standard. Communication was always clear and efficient.
We chose to have 'Graduate TAs' as part of our large team of TAs at our school as we were looking for candidates who were bright, enthusiastic and quick learners. We already had a number of very experienced TAs on our staff and we were keen to add to this high quality team with Graduates. Over the past 3 years Academics recruited 17 Graduate TAs for us.
We were aware that the candidates would come to us lacking significant in-school experience and they were only committing to one year, as many of them went on to do PGCE courses. However this was far outweighed by the contribution and difference they made within the school. It was exciting to be part of the process of supporting talented potential teachers as they grew in confidence and skills throughout the year.
The Graduate TAs worked across the year groups at our school. The majority of their work was supporting students with Special Educational Needs in class. They liaised regularly with subject staff and were an integral part of the lessons they supported. I received frequent positive feedback from staff stating how positive their relationships were with the students and what a difference their contribution made to lessons.
One great thing about Graduate TAs was their willingness to take part in extracurricular activities. This included running Football and Art Clubs as well on going on trips. They seemed to want to 'soak up' as much experience and be involved in as many different areas of the school as they could.
