Psychology Students & Graduates – Make a Difference in Primary Schools!

Are you studying psychology or recently graduated and eager to find hands-on experience that aligns with your degree and career ambitions?

Academics is partnering with a number of primary schools across York, who are urgently seeking compassionate, motivated, and proactive individuals to support pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.

Why this role is ideal for psychology students or graduates:

* Put your knowledge of child development, behaviour, and mental health into practice
* Gain valuable, real-world experience that supports future careers in educational psychology, clinical psychology, therapy, counselling, or teaching
* Collaborate with SENCOs, behaviour specialists, and other educational professionals
* Make a tangible difference in children’s lives while building strong, positive relationships
* Enjoy flexible work options – full-time, part-time, or day-to-day supply

Whether you’re looking for work to fit around your studies, a meaningful gap year opportunity, or your first step into education and psychology-related careers, this role offers the chance to grow your skills while making a real impact.

You’ll support pupils 1:1 or in small groups, helping them with learning, emotional regulation, and behaviour management. You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom, while gaining practical insight into autism, ADHD, and trauma-related needs.

We’re looking for:

* A background or keen interest in psychology, child development, or mental health
* Genuine empathy, enthusiasm, and resilience
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
