Mental Health Assistant – Slough

Are you looking to gain hands-on experience supporting children with complex learning disabilities? Are you considering a future career in education, SEN support, or mental health?

We are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Assistant to join a specialist school in Slough that caters to children with a range of complex learning difficulties, including autism, global developmental delay, and communication needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who require consistent, patient, and compassionate support.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children access learning, manage their emotions, and build confidence in a safe and structured environment.

Your Role as a Mental Health Assistant:

Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex learning disabilities

Assist in delivering individualised learning and behaviour plans
*

Promote emotional wellbeing and independence through daily interactions
*

Support non-verbal communication and sensory regulation strategies

What We’re Looking For:

A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education, or related experience
*

A strong interest in supporting children with additional needs
*

Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude
*

Experience with autism, non-verbal communication, or sensory needs is desirable but not essential

Working as a Mental Health Assistant in this setting offers an excellent foundation for careers in special education, therapy, and support work. You’ll gain invaluable, hands-on experience supporting children with a wide range of learning and communication needs.
