Academics recruits all types of teachers for all types of schools situated in and around London whether they be catering for mainstream children or for children with special educational needs.

Below is a breakdown of the most common types of school, although you may find that some schools are a combination of these types.

 

   

School Type Description

Nursery Schools

Non compulsory schooling for 3-4 year olds (a Kindergarten environment)

Infant Schools

Comprising Reception classes for 4-5 year olds (a pre-school environment) and Infant classes for 5-7 year olds (Years 1-2). Most Infant schools also have a Nursery class

Junior Schools

Comprising Junior classes for 8-11 year olds (Years 3-6)

Primary Schools

Combining Infant, Junior and often Nursery classes within the one school

Secondary Schools

Catering for 11-16 year olds (non-compulsory to 18 years old). (Years 7-11 (13))

Sixth Form Colleges

Catering for 16-18 year olds

Special Schools

For the education of children with various learning difficulties
